"In 1996, we walked into our first animal shelter together. On that day, we adopted two kittens we named Remo and Spunky. It was such a great experience; we vowed to adopt all of our pets from rescue organizations.
Since that time, we adopted seven more cats and five dogs.
The greatest part of adopting our pets is seeing the potential that each animal has to offer. It is often difficult to understand how each of our animals was once homeless. As we became more involved in rescue organizations, it was clear that homeless animals had a great deal of potential.
Today, families adopt only 20 to 30% of all pets from rescue organizations. We feel this number should be higher. Our answer is the Petapalooza Adoption Festival. Our commitment is that Petapalooza will be a pet and family-friendly event that brings together a diverse group of rescue organizations with families looking for a pet. Even families not quite ready to adopt their next companion will find Petapalooza an invaluable resource.
While Remo and Spunky are no longer with us, we hope that their example will encourage families to open a place in their hearts and homes for a rescued pet."
